Linlithgow is located in West Lothian, an ancient town, in the Central Belt of Scotland on a historic route between Edinburgh and Falkirk beside Linlithgow Loch. The town is situated approximately 20 miles (32 km) west of Edinburgh.
The town grew in prominence as a royal burgh and residence around Linlithgow Palace. Linlithgow became a centre of industry in leather making and other materials, before developing rapidly in the Victorian era with the opening of the Union Canal in the 1820s and the arrival of the railway in 1842.
The Placeity powered website – Linlithgow.co.uk – is operated and managed by the One Linlithgow business improvement district (BID), who instigated the development of a localised platform for over 300 local and national businesses based in the town.
The project has been funded through the BID as part of an integrated marketing strategy for the town.
